29 Reasons

This month Shelaine and I celebrate 29 years of marriage. “Twenty-nine and thriving” I told someone.

Lady Gaga laments that her man has given her a “Million Reasons” to dump the relationship. She asks for just one reason to stay.

I offer 29 reasons why I stay committed to Shelaine. 
 
Because…

1. I said I would.
2. I like being committed to her, and want to be committed to her.
3. She keeps becoming a more interesting person with time.
4. She wears her emotions honestly and openly.
5. She speaks her mind courageously and graciously.
6. Her killer humour makes me smile and laugh.
7. Her turns of phrase make her easy to listen to and understand.
8. She goes to Core Fitness twice a week.
9. When we walk at Mill Lake, we play “Guess how many people we’ll know.”
10. She puts God first without over-spiritualizing .
11. She loves family without becoming unboundaried.
12. Her work brings life, and benefits us both.
13. She discerns complex situations with nuanced insight, and speaks wisely into them.
14. Her friends make my life richer.
15. She’s more into pesto and penne than burger and brew.
16. She knows the inside joke of “burnt sienna”.
17. She would rather watch the Canucks than Days of Our Lives.
18. She came through her jaw ordeal by perseverance and hard work.
19. She is so far from being a complainer.
20. She sees the cup as overflowing.
21. She knows her limits and is not full of herself.
22. I have been able to become who I am because of her faithful support.
23. I have learned so much from her.
24. We enjoy serving others together.
25. I continue to be taken by her beauty.
26. She plays a wicked game of Wizard.
27. She does our finances (so I had better die first!)
